Sunday Brunch
Yesterday David, Justin, Kevin (?) and I went to David’s school for a 5 course brunch. We got there at 11am, thinking our reservation was at 11am, but in fact they only had room for us at 1pm… which turned out to be ok, because of the whole not serving alcohol before 12:30pm on a Sunday thing (mmm… mimosa). It was pretty tasty and a lot of fun. Sunday brunch should occur more often. Here’s a rundown of what I got…
Appetizer – Seared Sea Scallop w/ Roasted Creamed Corn, Balsamic-Fig Reduction, and Truffled Microgreens – awesome
Soup – Pea Soup w/ Parmesan Flan, Fresh Sweet Peas, Pea Tendrils, and Parmesan Crisp – I’m not really a pea soup kind of person, but this was great, especially with the parmesan flan
Salad – Frisée Salad w/ Poached Quail Egg, Bacon Lardons, Tomato Confit, Potato Crisp and Late Harvest Riesling Vinaigrette – How could something with “bacon lardons” be anything but awesome?
Main Plate – Seared Halibut w/ Celeriac-Potato Purée, Summer Squash Noodles and Citrus Broth – was ok, halibut was a tad dry, and come to think of it I don’t remember there being a “citrus broth”… I remember red bell pepper more than any citrus flavor
Dessert – Strawberry Soufflé w/ Lavender Cream Anglaise and Cookie – I think it could have been a little denser, but the cream anglaise was great… and where were our cookies?
Sounds delicious! And lovely new template
Thanks! I have since managed to kill the orchids… but at least I got a good picture out of them.
